The migration is timed with the wet season, allowing for calving on the nutritious short-grass plains. As the plains dry, the herds move westward and northward, facing challenges such as river crossings and predator encounters. The Northern Serengeti’s higher rainfall supports lush vegetation, offering a refuge for wildlife during the dry season.
